Nike continues its long-running love letter to New York City with the upcoming Air Force 1 ’01 “NYC Rat,” drawing inspiration from one of the city’s most familiar subway inhabitants.
Set to celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2027, the Air Force 1 returns in a “College Grey/Pink Glaze” colorway built around a rat-inspired concept. Hairy suede across the upper recreates the texture of a rodent’s coat, while soft pink accents reference its tail and feet, including a tail-like strip at the heel and a matching outsole.
The New York theme continues through a city-specific “NYC” Swoosh behind the tongue label, complemented by a velvety inner lining. The standout accessory is a MetroCard-inspired hangtag, paying tribute to the iconic MTA fare card that was discontinued in 2025 following the transition to OMNY.
Together, the muted grey palette, pink detailing, tactile materials, and transit-inspired accessories turn the Air Force 1 into a distinctly New York-centric tribute—one that captures the gritty character of the city through an unexpected subject.
The Nike Air Force 1 ’01 “NYC Rat” is expected to release on October 7, 2026 via Nike and select retailers. A special-edition NYC activation or packaging has also been rumored.
